Tanaka M1897 Trench Gun Review

Tanaka M1897 Trench Gun Review

Overview:

The Tanaka M1897 is an amazingly well built replica, available in both model gun and airsoft format; from the rounded pump handle, to the locking bolt carrier, every bit of this replica screams quality. These gun are hand fit and assembled replicas, with quality being of utmost importance to Tanaka himself. No parts creak or wobble out of tolerance, the action arm feels stiff but not too tight to feel like you'll break it, Trademarks deeply engraved into the gun, and words burned into the all wooden stock (depending on model). This replica is gas operated and uses PPS shells, hard to find but not impossible.

Quality:

I hope i didn't tease you too much with the overview paragraph, but this is an impressive replica, arguably up there in the ranks with Shoei. The smooth pump-action is crisp with absolutely 0 wobble; and i mean NONE! The bolt smoothly slides back showing the feed ramp action, which does actually lock the bolt into battery (Like the real replica) The replica features a full wood stock and pump with a rubber butt pad, most main externals are polymer, such as the receiver and bolt face, however things such as the internals, feed ramp, pump arm, barrel and more are metal.

Internals:

The replica features full metal internals, allowing for increased reliability during Slam-Firing, a feature of this known shotgun. The replicas bolt re-cocks the single action hammer, which is exposed at the rear of the gun. Which firing this actuates a tube to hit the rear of the PPS shells and fire your BBs. Afterwards you would rack the action arm backwards, this will drop your feed ramp, and load a new round into the chamber, allowing for the process to repeat. the shells can be unleaded via 2 buttons on the left and right of the receiver.
